Christiania, Copenhagen, Denmark.
The Freetown we have heard of since we were young in the seventies!
At the entrance was signs with rules:
No running (causes panic)
We were not planning to run….but photos?
I am happy we decided to take the guided tour (only 40 d.kr per nose)
The guide, a swedish lady that arrived to visit a friend in the seventies and never left!
She guided us in english, told us when to put away the cameras and when it was fine to take pictures.
Christiania was a military area that was deserted after WW2, in the seventies all kind of people started to move in, made their own laws, built their own houses, mostly known for allowing cannabis! Still legal here until 2004!
I guess the danish law still look the other way….
There was a market area with all kind of cannabis for sale!
As it now is against the law …of course the dealers do not want to appear in photos!
The guide asked for permission to let us all smell a piece of the finest piece!
We moved on to se some stores.
They heat their houses with wood.
Self built houses, very green area surrounded of Copenhagen City.
The flag of Christiania is red with yellow dots, why? Someone just happened to have these colors in storage!
Monks lived here, and left this.
In scandinavia we burn our garbage for heat. In Christiania they have a good view but no connection to the facility!
Of course there are authorities working to close down the area and build new expensive housing at this whole area.
They had a fight about some, as the authorities thought bad houses, had to build new ones, temporal, to be removed when the current occupants leave.
Building a little bit bigger?
New construction on an old military building.
